Established in 1978 Island Sign has been providing quality signs for Maui's business community for over 20 years.

From lettering windows & vehicles to installing monuments or back lit sign faces, we will provide professional and creative signage at very affordable prices.

Island Sign is a full service sign shop offering sign types as diverse as the people & places that make up this island.

I hope you find this website informative and interesting to look at. The six different areas I've set up help to organize the information I felt was relevant about Island Sign. Each area is built off the same template and will consist mostly of photos of my work, or in some cases computer drawings I've created for signs & design projects.

This is my first website design and with much help from Kama'aina Computers on writing code, compiling my images, and adding all the JavaScript & GIF animations, I feel that we have achieved my objectives.

The sign business is often a very colorful occupation, and that theme clearly shows up in these pages. Of course much of my work is for a more serious, professional, or low key clientele as many of my images will show. This website is like a sign for Island Sign and I hope it conveys some of the fun and vibrant energy that I feel about my work.

Douglas Allan, the owner of Island Sign, has followed up his fine arts education with completion of the architectural program in Hilo, Hawaii.With his creative guidance your signage needs will be accommodated with an aesthetic use of color & space and the integrity to provide years of service.

PRODUCTION

In an effort to keep up with the latest technological advances in sign making, we now offer digital printing. With new upgrades in the leading design software we hope to help bring your business image into the millennium. Call Island Sign to discuss your signage needs whatever they may be. MAINTENANCE

Long after the sale Island Sign will be maintaining an archive of our computer files for reorders. In the event of damage to your sign we will be able to do touch up or revisions to your signage. Call us for a repaint or refurbishing of your signs and keep them looking new!

SERVICE

Stop by and visit me at my shop in Kahului located at 355 Hukilike St. We offer consultation services to assist you in examining your options, and selecting suitable materials, & design elements. Bring along any design ideas to work from. I have 3 walls full of samples of my work so look around for ideas if you like.

SIGN SAMPLES

When discussing sizes, colors, and layouts with a customer my sample walls often help my client and myself to visualize our design ideas. Then a sketch or a color proof from the computer will usually finalize the design phase.

DECAL SAMPLES

With all the variations of print technology available today, I can offer a variety of approaches to complete a decal or sticker order. Based on artwork complexity or quantities, screen printing or digital printing may be best for you. There are also many choices in material.

MORE STICKERS

Many of these images are cut out of vinyl and built up in layers of different colors. Some are screen printed onto white or clear vinyl that was pre-cut to the shape of the image. The irregular shapes look best floating on the background without a square decal around it.

DESIGN STATION

The design and production usually starts here. With 4 cutting edge graphics programs, scanner, printer, plotter, and Internet hook-up, both this system and my newer set-up at the office provide adequate means for creating or transferring graphic information during the design & reviewing process.

DELUXE SCREEN PRINTING

This was my last employer on the mainland. After an expansion the sign became a two part arrangement. The new adjacent storefront sign carried over the colored striping and finished the business name.
